Matte Week: ManGlaze FAIL Collection - Swatches and Review

Good afternoon my Lacquered Lovers! Since I did a glitter week last week, I thought this week I'd go the opposite way and show you my matte polishes! It helps that a bunch of brands are releasing their new Matte collections now so to kick it off right, I'm showing you the new ManGlaze Fall (or Fail as they say) collection! Let's jump right in!

For each color, first I'll show you it in its original Matte glory with ManGlaze's own description in italics, then my review and then you'll see it with top coat!

Above: Fatty's Got More Blood - 2 coats over 1 coat OPI Nail Envy

We named this color after my favorite album from one of my favorite bands — 'Fatty's Got More Blood' by Buttsteak! It's extremely rare so if you see it, BUY IT! They are no longer together (I think their drummer blew up or something) but definitely worth checking out: http://www.myspace.com/buttsteakmusic

Fatty's Got More Blood is a deep maroon matte polish that's packed with shimmer. Ah how I love the ManGlaze matte shimmers. This was virtually opaque in one coat but I threw on a second one for good measure. I'd definitely call this color a blood red, it's dark, it's vampy, it's fabulous. The formula was fantastic and it dried in a flash. I love dark reds for fall and this is the first dark red matte I've seen and I love it! Now, here it is with a coat of Seche Vite on top!

Look at that shimmer! I love how much the shimmer and sparkle comes through with a top coat. I think it'd be great to do a manicure that's all matte with an accent nail that has a top coat! Gorgeous! On to the next,...

Above: Butt Taco - 3 coats over 1 coat OPI Nail Envy

Unfortunately no description I could find from ManGlaze so you're just stuck with my review! Butt Taco. Yes, they named a nail polish Butt Taco. Butt Taco is a bright orange matte that also has a lot of shimmer in it. I found the formula on this one to be a bit more thin than the rest so I did three coats just for good measure. Now I was never an orange girl before this summer but I really like this one! It's great for fall/Halloween time (as well as next summer) and it's actually a really flattering shade! Even though I did three coats this still dried super fast. Now check it out with one coat of Seche Vite on top!

Gorgeous! I love seeing that shimmer pop through! On to the next,...

Above: Nawsome Sauce - 2 coats over 1 coat OPI Nail Envy

One of our fans recently commented "Awesome Sauce" as a response on a stupid contest we ran. It stuck with us so we've used it as a small tribute to the high school and home town where the creators of ManGlaze are from — SagiNAW, MI.

Nawsome Sauce IS Awesome Sauce in my humble opinion! This is a dark, hunter green that just looks amazing on the nail. I love the shimmer, I love that it's very dark without being blackened and you can actually tell it's a green in the shade and I loved the formula. Practically opaque in one coat but threw on a second just for good measure. Now let's see it with one coat of Seche Vite on top:

So pretty. This may be my new go to green for both matte and glossy! I adore it! The shimmer looks amazing both matte and glossy. On to the next,...

Above: ILF - 2 coats over 1 coat OPI Nail Envy

ILF. What the fuck does ILF mean? Perhaps it's like MILF, but without the need for an actual mother. OR maybe it stands for 'I Like Fur', a great song from a band that just happens to kick all sorts of ass, the Evil Mothers! And now we're talking about mothers again... well, we'll let you decide. In the meantime, here's a video someone made for 'I Like Fur': http://youtu.be/KPg9kpkaUSk Watch it, then come back and buy yo' self some ILF.

ILF is a gorgeous turquoise matte. Not what I'd expect for a Fall collection but I like it! The shimmer is less apparent in this one, I'm assuming because it's a much lighter color. I love the shade for the spring or summer but don't see myself using it much in the Fall. Perfectly opaque in two coats and quick drying makes me a happy girl! Now let's see it with some top coat!

I love it! This might be the only ManGlaze color I actually like better glossy! For shame, I know, but it looks great! On to the next,...

Above: Mink Mittens - 2 coats over 1 coat OPI Nail Envy

Mink Mittens I actually reviewed last week which you can find HERE. So I'll shut up and just let you see the pictures of it with a coat of Seche Vite on the top:

Stunning! I love how you can see the shimmer and glitter both with and without the top coat! On to the last:

Above: Cabron - 2 coats over 1 coat OPI Nail Envy

As a nod to my dad, we're naming this color after his pet name for me — 'Cabrón'.

Cabron is the color I was least impressed with in the bunch. To me, it was like a less exciting Fuggen Ugly or Royal Matterimoaning or a cross between the two. I also was having horrible allergies while swatching these so I apologize for the less than stellar pictures but honestly, of this whole collection, this is the only one I'd skip. Here it is with a coat of Seche Vite top coat:

It's a fine polish, but nothing that exciting like the rest of the ManGlazes in my opinion.

All in all, I loved this collection! The formulas were great, they dried super fast, and they all for the most part looked great both matte and glossy! I'd highly recommend these, even if just to tell people you are wearing Butt Taco on your nails. You can buy ManGlaze now for 10% off on their Facebook store!

What did you think of this collection? Are you a matte fan?

  9. These are all awesome; both matte and with topcoat. I love how the mattes these days have that secret shimmer that is there when matte but pop with top coat. I don't have any Manglaze polish yet, but this collection may be the first I buy from them. Awesome swatches! :)
